[Kanaya enters Karkat's room, close on Sollux's heels, and her heart sinks. Yeah... yeah, this is just like with Tavros.

The room is empty, but it's more than that. This isn't a room where whoever lives there is just out and about, leaving small bits and pieces of their life behind to be picked up later... this room is empty, void, and all the pieces of Karkat left behind are adrift, no longer waiting for him to come back and retrieve them but simply caught up in the current of time, rushing them forward to some unknown destination. Some destination where Karkat is unknown.

She swallows, hard. She could be wrong; she has to be wrong! With trembling fingers, she gets out her Dreamberry and scrolls through the contacts. She checks three times, hoping she's missed something... but she hasn't. Karkat Vantas, just like Tavros Nitram, is off the list.

Her knees give out on her and she sinks onto the edge of Karkat's bed.]

[Well that's not something he wanted to hear from Kanaya. He did think Karkat's room was odd, but it hadn't clicked yet. He couldn't check contact lists like Kanaya after all.]

Shit what? Do you know where he is?

[Kanaya pats the bed beside her, hitting it hard enough that the sound carries, giving Sollux something to follow.]

Come here. There's... there's something I need to tell you.

[Kanaya why do you always have to do this. You're so frustrating sometimes! Argh, he's going over and sitting though.]

Just fucking say it already. I hate when you do this shit.

[She's doing it because she wants you sitting down when she tells you the bad news.]

Sollux, I'm so sorry, but... Karkat is gone. He's... he's not here anymore, and I... I don't know if he's ever coming back.

[Sollux is still confused but it's clicking]

...Like he went back to the Veil?

[Kanaya nods, her voice feeling caught and cloying in her throat, before she remembers that Sollux can't see her. Then she speaks, her voice raspy with unshed tears.]

Yes. It... it happened to Tavros too.

He's gone, Sollux.

[No wonder Kanaya's voice was raspy. He remembered hearing that Tavros was hear too, it made sense why he hadn't really heard anything from him now. Sollux just sort of falls silent, his head downward cast. He didn't really want to talk anymore. Any motivation he had for today was gone. ]

[Kanaya gathers herself together enough to notice Sollux's silence. Not like he's the most talkactive troll in the best of times, but this... she knows him well enough to recognize that he's floundering, sinking.

And she doesn't know if she has the strength to pull him out of it.

She doesn't say anything; words are pointless right now. Instead, she shifts closer to him and gently slides her arm around him, using her other hand to take one of his.

It won't make it right--it feels like it will never be right again--but it's the best she can do.

[Sollux can be talkative. With the right people at least and in the right moods. Now was not the time for talking however. It wasn't really the time for anything at all. Not for Sollux.

Was it selfish of him to wish Karkat was still here? The Veil was where they were supposed to be, but it wasn't like going back would be a good thing. Maybe it could be a good thing. He wouldn't know. He felt like an ass though. Like some how all of this was his fault regardless of the fact that it wasn't. He knew it wasn't. It didn't change how he felt.

He glances in Kanaya's direction when she put her arm around him, wanting to tell her to go away. That he didn't need any comfort. He can't bring himself to do it. ]

[Maybe this isn't all about you this time, Sollux. Maybe Karkat was Kanaya's friend too, and while she won't pretend to be as upset as you are, she's pretty shaken too.

Sollux isn't responding, but at least he's not telling her to get lost. Kanaya counts that as a small victory and, with a dejected little sigh, puts her head on his shoulder.

He's too bony to be much fun to hug, but it's better than nothing.]

[OOC: Time for an Eridouche-jack?]

[No one would probably understand the convenience of doors left open much like Eridan does in this moment. Despite the inward cursings at himself for not realizing how close Karkat's hive had been all along, he made his way there prompt enough.]

[Or maybe, it wasn't.]

[The emotions that strung through the sea troll when he made his dramatic entrance to Karkat's empty and yet not so empty room would be impossible to describe. Anger? Jealousy? Resentfulness? Probably that and more. Brows knit as he stares on at the two, fins flaring and he's snarling.]

And what the FUCK is goin' on in here?! Kan why the fuck you holdin' him like... that!?

[He had half the mind to yank them from each other but... There were more pressing matters.]

... Anyway, where the fuck is Kar?

[He's not sure how to feel about you putting your head on him like that Kanaya, but he doesn't actually get to tell you to move because of a certain sea troll who just came in. He stares emptily up at the door a moment, then glares to the intrusion.]

Who the fuck let you in?

[Just ignoring the comment on how Kanaya was holding him, or the question as to where karkat was. Eridan was uninvited- clearly thats more important.]

[How did Eridan get in? Kanaya suddenly remembers that she didn't check to see if he was watching when she left the hive, and she definitely didn't lock the door behind her. She might not even have closed it.

Picking her head up off Sollux's shoulder, but not removing her arm or dropping his hand, she looks blearily at Eridan, and picks out what she thinks is the most relevant of his ~~accusations~~ comments.]

Karkat's gone, Eridan.

[Wait... Did she mean gone... Like, Tavros gone?]

[No. No she couldn't, he couldn't...]

[Pulling out his dream berry, scrolling furiously through the list of names.]

[All scrolling has stopped. He's just staring at the place where Karkat's name used to be. The dreamberry skips it, going to the next person. The two names that once sandwiched his kismesises name were now neighbors. They weren't allowed to be neighbors! They were suppose to be separated! Karkat's name was suppose to be there! Right there!]

[They weren't suppose to take his place... Kick him out. Make Eridan's heart drop as much as it is. Make his chest tighten and hurt as he just stares at that spot. Make his eyes sting like mad, make his jaw clench and his throat feel like a mass just made its home there.]

[Karkat was his kismesis and he was suppose to be here.]
